The Organisation
The Applied Control Technology Consortium (ACTC) helps companies
pursue a policy of understanding and appropriately applying
control technologies. The ACTC has been self-financing since
1993 and has grown to become truly international. It now
provides control technology support to 35 ‘world-class’
companies operating in industries as diverse as Automotive,
Aerospace & Defence, Chemical & Petrochemical, Energy,
Marine, Metal Processing, Food and Drink manufacturing.
The success in meeting the expectations and needs of its member
companies can be attributed to the Consortium’s flexibility
and responsiveness in sharing an understanding of industrially
relevant technology. A Steering Committee, made up of
representatives from member companies, ensures that the ACTC
serves the needs of its members.
Our Activities
The techniques ranging from simple PID to state of the art advanced control are
investigated using packages such as Matlab/Simulink and
MATRIXX, as well as the ACTC’s own user friendly
toolboxes.
Real-time hardware is also available for practical
implementation at member’s sites. This includes the Labview RT
with PXI and Fieldpoint from National Instruments for both
simulation and real-time control. A very broad range of
problems have been studied, including marine, power,
automotive, and defence systems as well as metal and oil
production
The links established by the ACTC with renowned researchers and in
particular with the Industrial Control
Centre at Strathclyde University, ensures that the ACTC is
constantly informed of and utilises the most recent expertise
and techniques.
Our Services
Access to the above technologies and associated benefits is provided
free of charge to ACTC members through the following wide range of services:
Regular technical meetings, workshop and awareness days on
basic and advanced subjects. Typically 5 per annum.
Regular one/two day basic training
courses or advanced control introductions. Bi-monthly.
Two day training courses at member's premises. Can cover virtually any
topic, tailored to meet member needs.
Case Studies proposed by members are undertaken to
investigate the usefulness of new technologies. Typically 5-6 case studies per annum.
Visits to company premises to provide consultancy and problem solving.
Fast access to consultants is available over the telephone, fax or email.
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that focus on
particular sectors of industry. Typically 1-2 meetings per annum.
Deliverables, including Educational Notes and
Technical Reports.
The ACTC's own range of software toolboxes designed to make
advanced control more accessible.
Access to commercial control design packages and hardware rapid prototyping
systems.
Regular mailings, newsletters
and conference reports from most of the major events.
Reference library and Internet site.
Industrial forum, useful for networking and promoting services/products.
